Hey there! Are you new here?
I'm so glad you found your way to my corner of the internet. Here at Wifey Mommy Doc, we're all about simple routines that will help you feel more balanced and less overwhelmed with your everyday tasks. When you're done reading the article below, you can learn more about how I can help HERE.
A few years ago, one of my sorority sisters passed on to me the idea of creating a “Memory Jar”. I’ve decided to change it up a little, and developed a “Mommy Moments” Jar. The purpose of this jar is to document your happy moments as a mom throughout the year. And to serve as a “pick-me-up” when things are getting too hard and overwhelming. I know how hard motherhood can be. I know sometimes you may feel like you’re truly failing as a mom – I know I feel that way sometimes! So, this “Mommy Moments” Jar can really come in handy!
Here’s how to get started with yours:
The Jar
The first thing you’ll need is a jar. This can be a mason jar, a cookie jar – any jar or bin you love. You can decorate and personalize it any way you’d like. I encourage you to decorate it, since it’ll make you more likely to actually use it!
Keep It Close
Keep the jar in a spot you’ll remember to use it. Put it near something that you use on a daily basis. This may be in the bathroom near your toothbrush, or near your Bible or favorite book. Also keep small slips of paper or post-it notes and a pen close by so that you can write things down as soon as you experience them!
Start Writing
Make note of things that make you happy as a mom on a regular basis. It doesn’t have to be daily, but try to make it a regular habit. These can be big or small things – your child succeeding at something they’ve been trying really hard at, your youngest saying “I love you” for the first time, your child doing a chore without being asked, or making straight A’s in school. Write down the date and the “mommy moment”. Anything that makes you proud or happy to be a mom – write it down!
Reflect
Once a year (for me, it’ll be Mother’s Day – but you can choose any day you want), I recommend pulling out the jar and reading over your “Mom Moments” for the previous year. You can empty out the jar when you’re done with it and start over for the new year, or just keep adding to the jar for as long as you’d like. Another idea is to take the small slips from that year, after you’ve reviewed them, and paste them into a journal or notebook, to save them from year to year.
You also don’t have to wait a whole year to review your mommy moments. When you’re having a rough day, and feel like parenting just isn’t going right, pull out your jar and read some of the slips for a positive boost. Reflecting on those positive moments when you’re down can remind you why you’re doing this whole mommy thing in the first place.
I hope this “Mommy Moments” jar will be helpful for you! Please leave any feedback in the comments below!
