Are you a busy mom who feels like you can’t get everything you need done every day? This post shares a few of my favorite time-saving hacks for busy moms.
Let’s face it, being a working wife and mom isn’t easy. In fact, I’m sure you can agree that it can be absolutely overwhelming at times! You’re not only responsible for your own life and needs. But you also have to make sure your husband and kids’ needs are met. There are only so many hours in a day. And as a busy woman, you may feel the need to make every minute in your day count. As a working wife and mom of five kids, I know exactly how you feel.
I struggled for a while (and still do at times) with having way too many things to do in one day. I’d just end up frustrated and stressed when my time runs out. But I’ve found quite a few hacks that I build into my days and weeks to make them a little easier. And I’m happy to share with you a few of the things that work for me.

Why are these time-saving hacks for busy moms so important?
I know that seems like a no-brainer, but in case you don’t think these hacks are worthwhile, here’s my take on why you should use them:
- Be more efficient. If you could do something in 30 minutes that would normally take an hour, think about how much time you’ll have left for other things?
- Free up more time to accomplish your own personal goals.
- Have more time to help your husband and kids with their tasks, and to be there for them when they need you.
- Have more time for quality time with your family.
- Get more rest.
- Feel less stressed by the pressure of time.
- Have more time for self-care and not feel guilty about it.
Time-saving hacks for busy moms
With all of that being said, here are my time-saving hacks for busy moms:
1. Meal-Planning
I swear by a good ‘ole meal plan. In fact, I wrote a whole post about the meal planning rotation I use in my own home. Planning your meals all at once (whether monthly, weekly – or maybe even quarterly) may take some time while you’re doing it. But it ends up saving you a lot of time and stress each day when you already know what you’re going to make.
2. Cooking tools
My crock pot, air fryer, and Instant Pot have all been life savers for me. I admit that I don’t use my Instant Pot as often as I should. But, it has come in handy when I’ve forgotten to thaw meat that I need for a meal.
The air fryer is a godsend. Seriously! I’ve made wings, pork chops, steaks, fries – a ton of things I normally cook. And they come out perfect in less time than they would take in the oven. Plus, it’s a tad bit healthier than frying on the stove in oil.
I’ve gotten a lot of use out of my crockpot. Our days away from the house are usually pretty long. I’m able to season and drop a whole chicken, pot roast, vegetables, chili or soup ingredients into it in the morning, and it’ll slow-cook until we get home from school and work.
I’ll also add my rice cooker to the list, since it’s another ‘set it and forget it” appliance that saves me a lot of time.
3. Shipt grocery delivery
Another time-saving hack has been grocery delivery. I know this became popular during the COVID-19 pandemic. But it’s something I fell in love with even before the pandemic. I love being able to add things to my “cart” through the Shipt app throughout the day. Then I just place the order when I’m ready. Having groceries show up on my door step within 2 hours makes it even better.
I also love the fact that I can use their “buy again” feature. That way, I just add our usual items to my cart without having to search for them every single time. Using grocery delivery has saved me a lot of time and money. Especially since I don’t have to walk through the grocery store with hungry children! I wrote a whole post about why I love Shipt grocery delivery!
Here’s my Shipt referral link if you’re interested: http://share.shipt.com/pqScr. You’ll get $50 off of your annual membership by using this link, and my family will receive a Shipt credit.
4. Meal Delivery Services
I know it may seem like all I think about is food. But since I’m responsible for feeding a house of 7 people, it’s something that’s constantly on my mind! Meal delivery – like grocery delivery – has also become more popular recently, and our family jumped right on the band wagon. I typically cook 5 nights a week (Sunday-Thursday), and on our take-out days when I just don’t feel like leaving the house, I can easily reach for my phone and order food to be delivered within the hour. It’s much better than loading all the kids up to go through a drive-through. Plus, its and a lot healthier.
5. Restaurant apps
Like I mentioned before, we tend to eat out 2 nights a week (and I cook the other 5). On Friday nights, each of our 5 kids gets to choose what we eat on a rotation. They all have their favorite restaurants (even the 3 year-old!), so I save time by having the apps for their favorite restaurants on phone, saving our favorite orders, and just re-ordering when the time comes. This saves me a lot of time and thought.
6. Amazon
Of course, this is a big time-saving hack for a lot of families. Nothing beats having Amazon Prime, and having our necessities dropped off to our doorstep within a day or 2. We use their “Subscribe & Save” feature especially for our toiletries, to make sure we never run out. I’ve also been able to find things on Amazon that I haven’t been able to find anywhere else. And that’s really nice.
7. Planning your week
I’m a huge believer in planning. It helps me to have a clear mind, to focus, and actually get things done. I’ve found that planning for the following week on the Friday before has been the most effective. It helps me to get all my thoughts out of my head and onto paper to create a clear plan. And I’m able to go into the weekend in relaxation mode (for the most part). I feel confident knowing that I don’t have any loose ends to worry about. I also spend some time each night to briefly plan for the following day (using the weekly plan I made the Friday before as a guide).
Even though you have a lot on your plate, it is still possible to have time for the things you love. Building these time-saving hacks for moms into your day can be a game-changer. Especially when you realize you are no longer wasting time on things that could be so much easier! As an added bonus, I hope these hacks will help you have more time for the things and people you enjoy. I know how time-consuming your many roles are as a working wife and mom. I hope this list will give you a few ideas to make your days more efficient and a little easier!
